October 20 was officially recognized as We Give Blood Day in Lincoln, following a proclamation signed by Mayor Leirion Gaylor Baird in support of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s participation in the We Give Blood challenge.
Sponsored by Abbott and the Big Ten Conference, the We Give Blood challenge encourages students, alumni, fans and communities to donate blood and earn points for their favorite Big Ten school. Participating schools compete to make the greatest impact through blood donations, helping raise awareness of the ongoing need for blood to support patients.
Interim Chancellor Katherine S. Ankerson highlighted the importance of blood donations for patients facing everything from surgery and newborn care to life-changing medical emergencies.
As the competition continues through December 4, Nebraska Community Blood Bank encourages employees to rally behind the Huskers and help spread the word about the lifesaving impact of blood donation. Every donation counts toward supporting patients in our communities and helping UNL compete for the win.
