Blood Bank Needs Your Help!

The Nebraska Community Blood Bank is asking for your help. The supply of O negative, A negative and B blood types are all at dangerously low levels.

It is important to maintain a sufficient supply of each blood type, especially O negative since it is considered the “universal blood type” and can be given to all blood types in an emergency. As a thank you for donating this week, everyone will receive a white “I Bleed Husker Red” t-shirt and the chance to enter a drawing for two tickets to the Red/White football game, Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Urgent Need for Blood Donors

This week, the blood supply for the community has reached dangerously low levels due to high usage combined with winter weather that has prevented donors from coming to donate.  O negative is the most needed blood type. Normally, the Nebraska Community Blood Bank (NCBB) maintains a 7-10 day blood supply; however, currently the O negative supply is being measured in hours.

Four Days of Giving at the Blood Bank

The holidays are about giving and at the Nebraska Community Blood Bank, it is about giving the gift of life.  Since the need for blood never takes a holiday, those helping maintain the blood supply in the days leading up to Christmas will be given a special opportunity. Beginning Monday, December 20, everyone registering to donate blood at either a NCBB’s fixed site or blood drive will be able to pick an envelope from the Christmas tree or stocking.

U-Stop at NCBB

Blood donors save lives and December 27-30 they may receive an extra bonus during U-Stop Days at the Nebraska Community Blood Bank!  With four collection sites, each one will be a featured U-Stop location depending on the day.
