Please see the talking points below regarding the October 1, 2017 tragic shooting in Las Vegas.

  • On the evening of October 1, 2017, there was a massive shooting in Las Vegas, NV. As of the latest reports, we know that at least 58 people have been killed and over 500 may have been injured. Our hearts go out to all those who have been affected by this tragic event.
  • In the wake of the shooting, Nebraska Community Blood Bank has been in touch with the local Las Vegas blood banks, and we have learned they have enough blood on hand to support the local hospitals.
  • There has been an outpouring of blood donors in Las Vegas, with wait times of at least two hours. We are grateful to all the blood donors who have stepped forward compassionately and selflessly to help others.
  • Nebraska Community Blood Bank stands ready to ship additional blood should it be needed. This tragedy reminds us that the need for blood is every day. We encourage all eligible donors to schedule and keep their appointments to donate with Nebraska Community Blood Bank. Our three donor centers are open tomorrow (Tuesday) and accepting donors. A full list of of locations and hours can be found here. While walk-ins are welcome, we encourage donors to schedule an appointment by calling 1-877-486-9414 or online at donor.ncbb.org.
  • The blood we collect today can help those in need tomorrow.
  • There is a strong and supportive network of community blood centers throughout the country with a robust disaster response plan in place. This same plan was recently used to deliver nearly 7,800 units of blood and more than 880 units of platelets on short notice to hundreds of hospitals affected by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
